The short version: the tools run in your browser, and nothing you put into them is sent anywhere.

What the tools do with your data

Every tool on this site runs as JavaScript in your own browser. Colours you enter, text you type, images, PDFs and resumes you open, and results you generate are processed on your device and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no upload step, because there is nothing to upload to. You can confirm this by opening your browser's network tab. The exceptions are font previews on three typography pages, described below, and the files a tool downloads from this site to do its work, such as the font finder's shape database. Downloading a file sends nothing of yours.

What we store on your device

Nothing here leaves your browser, and clearing this site's data removes all of it. What each part of the site keeps, and where:

  • Theme. Your light or dark preference, in localStorage under dsyn-theme.
  • Resumes. The resume builder keeps your resumes in an IndexedDB database, dsyn-resume, or in localStorage under keys starting dsyn:resumes: where IndexedDB is unavailable. The resume you last had open is noted under dsyn:resume-builder:open.
  • Cover letters. The cover letter builder keeps your letters in its own IndexedDB database, dsyn-letters, or in localStorage under keys starting dsyn:letters: where IndexedDB is unavailable. The letter you last had open is noted under dsyn:cover-letter:open.
  • Text you are counting or converting. The word counter and the case converter keep it in localStorage, under dsyn:text:word-counter and dsyn:text:case-converter, so a reload does not lose it. The Clear button on each tool removes it.
  • A resume passed from the ATS resume checker to the builder. Only when you press the button that sends it: the file is put in IndexedDB (dsyn-handoff), or in sessionStorage under dsyn:handoff:resume-check where IndexedDB is unavailable, and deleted as the builder reads it. One left unread for ten minutes is ignored and removed. The checker keeps nothing else.
  • The font finder's database. Its shape database (3.1 MB) and the preview fonts it shows are downloaded from this site and kept by the site's service worker, in caches named dsyn-data-v1 and dsyn-previews-v1, so later searches work offline. The image you search is never stored.
  • Offline copies. The same service worker keeps copies of pages you have visited and the files they need, in caches whose names start dsyn-, so the site still opens without a connection.
  • Smaller conveniences. Some tools keep your work for as long as the tab is open, in sessionStorage under keys starting dsyn:draft:; the image picker keeps the last image you opened the same way, under dsyn-image-picker. The pixel converter keeps a screen calibration you set in localStorage, under dsyn-screen-cal. Recent activity keeps the results you chose to save in an IndexedDB database named dsyn.

Tool settings are otherwise kept in the page address, after the #, which is what makes a result shareable by copying the address. That part of an address is never sent to a server.

Browsers can delete stored data on their own. Safari deletes it after seven days of use in which you have not visited this site, and any browser may clear it when the disk is short of space. Download anything you want to keep.

Analytics

One measurement script runs on this site: Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts page views, referrers, countries and load times. It sets no cookies, does no fingerprinting, and does not follow you to any other website — which is why there is no cookie banner asking you to accept it. We can see that a page was viewed; we cannot see that you viewed it, and there is no profile of you to build.

We do not use Google Analytics. There are no advertising pixels, no session recorders, and no cross-site tracking of any kind. Cloudflare also records standard aggregate request data as our host — page, country, approximate timing — as any web host does.

We turned this on because we could not otherwise tell whether anything we write is read. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker stops it, and the site works identically either way.

One exception: font previews

Three typography pages, the type legibility checker, the type scale generator and the font pairings, preview text in Google Fonts families. Those font files are fetched from Google Fonts: on the first two when you choose a family that is not built into the page, and on the pairings page for the pairs it shows. That request tells Google your IP address and which font was asked for. Nothing else about your session goes with it — your colours, sizes and text never leave the page, and the measurements the tools report come from tables built into the page rather than from any request.

These are the only third-party requests the site makes besides the analytics beacon above. The font finder's previews come from this site, not from Google.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. That is also why you have not been shown a cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.

Affiliate links

There are none on this site today. Should that change, every such link will be marked as a paid link in the text itself rather than disclosed only here, and this section will be rewritten to say what the arrangement is.

Your rights

Rights under GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and India's DPDP Act mostly concern access to, correction of, and deletion of personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date at the top changes with it. Any move away from "we collect nothing" would be stated plainly here rather than buried.
